Dutch Safety Board Investigates Gas Risks Following Utrecht Explosion
The Dutch Safety Board is investigating natural gas explosion risks following a blast in Utrecht on January 15 that injured four people and damaged several buildings. The inquiry will examine the aging gas infrastructure, particularly a Stedin-operated line over 30 years old, and will also review past incidents, including two explosions in 2022. The explosion has led to significant damage to local businesses and has raised over 65,000 euros in support for affected residents.

The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) is investigating natural gas explosion risks following a blast in Utrecht on January 15, which injured four people. The explosion occurred in Visscherssteeg, damaging multiple buildings and prompting a Grip 2 regional emergency response.
Investigators will also look into past incidents, including two explosions in 2022. The aging gas infrastructure, particularly a Stedin-operated gas line over 30 years old, may be a factor in the incident. As of January 20, the explosion had caused significant damage to businesses and raised over 65,000 euros in support for affected residents.
