Dutch Tech Firms Thales, Neways, and NXP Develop Microchip for Drone Detection
A collaboration of Dutch companies, including Thales, Neways, and NXP, has resulted in a new microchip for radar systems designed to detect unwanted drones. This development, initiated in 2015, focuses on enhancing detection capabilities while reducing costs. A 10-year partnership was announced to further develop this technology, which will be integrated into new minesweeper ships for the Dutch and Belgian navies. The project aims to bolster the Netherlands' position in defense technology.

Dutch technology companies Thales, Neways, and NXP have developed a new microchip for radars aimed at detecting unwanted drones, positioning the Netherlands as a leader in this field. The collaboration began in 2015 to enhance drone detection effectiveness and reduce costs.
The resulting radio frequency (RF) chip consumes less energy and allows for earlier detection of drones. A 10-year partnership between Thales and Neways was announced to advance this technology, which will be used on new minesweeper ships for the Dutch and Belgian navies. The production of the chip is entirely domestic, aligning with local and EU goals to strengthen the defense industry.
