E-Concern Develops Sabah's First Waste Management Facility, Projected to Create 270 Jobs
E-Concern (Borneo) Sdn Bhd is developing Sabah's first mini scheduled waste management facility at the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP) with an investment exceeding RM1 billion. The facility will create approximately 270 jobs for Sabahans and aims to support industrial growth while complying with environmental standards.
The project aligns with the 'Sabah First' vision from the Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MIDS). MIDS state minister Datuk Ewon Benedick highlighted that the facility will reduce reliance on external waste management and lower logistics costs. Meanwhile, Deputy Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup advocated for the development of Sabah's deep-sea fishery industry to enhance the value chain and leverage the state's strategic advantages for economic growth and energy production through ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC).
