Eagle Sewer District Faces Opposition Over Wastewater Plan with Farmers' Union Canal
Eagle Sewer District's agreement to send Class A treated wastewater into the Farmers' Union Canal has drawn significant local opposition. The project, set for implementation in 2029, raises concerns among residents in Star about potential contaminants and the adequacy of public health measures.

Eagle Sewer District signed a 25-year agreement in October 2024 with Farmers' Union Ditch Company to discharge Class A treated wastewater into a canal for irrigation, projected to begin in 2029. The district claims the water will meet Idaho Department of Environmental Quality standards and aims to support drought resilience and reduce reliance on Boise's infrastructure.
However, residents in Star express concerns over contaminants, particularly PFAS and pharmaceuticals, arguing they were not adequately consulted. The district's public outreach began in 2023, but local opposition is growing as community members demand improved wastewater treatment infrastructure. The plan could affect water quality and agricultural practices in the region.
