EASTRIP Project to Enhance Renewable Energy Skills in East Africa
The East Africa Regional Skills Transformation and Integration Project (EASTRIP) is focused on advancing renewable energy technologies among East African Community member states. Deputy Minister Wanu Hafidh Ameir recently inspected the nearly completed Kikuletwa Power Project, which will provide practical training for students and supply electricity to local villages, while also featuring a solar energy center to encourage innovation. Despite challenges with road infrastructure, approximately 3,500 students, including some from Kenya, have already trained in renewable electricity technologies.

The East Africa Regional Skills Transformation and Integration Project (EASTRIP) aims to promote renewable energy technologies among East African Community (EAC) member states. Deputy Minister Wanu Hafidh Ameir inspected the Kikuletwa Power Project, which is under construction with a capacity of 1.65 megawatts and is 83.43% complete.
The project, set to be finalized in 60 days, will provide practical training for students and supply electricity to local villages. It also includes a solar energy center to foster innovation. Approximately 3,500 students have trained in renewable electricity technologies, with some from Kenya. The project faces challenges related to road infrastructure, but efforts are ongoing to enhance accessibility.
