EBRD Provides $65 Million Loan for Solar and Battery Project in Egypt's Benban
The EBRD has allocated a $65 million loan to HAU Energy for constructing a 200 MW solar plant and a 120 MWh battery system in Egypt, contributing to the nation's renewable energy goals. This initiative is part of a broader effort to advance Egypt's transition to a low-carbon economy and improve energy security.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is financing a $65 million loan to HAU Energy for the development of a 200 MW solar photovoltaic plant and a 120 MWh battery energy storage system in Benban, Egypt. This facility aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 280,000 tons annually and will play a key role in Egypt's strategy to generate 42% of its energy from renewable sources by 2030.
Additionally, the EBRD will provide a technical cooperation package to support training programs in green skills for youth, enhancing workforce capabilities in the renewable sector. The project is part of a larger initiative to expand Egypt's energy infrastructure, which includes plans for 3,000 MW of new solar capacity and 600 MW of battery storage by summer 2026. As the region faces challenges from geopolitical tensions, projects like this are crucial for diversifying Egypt's energy mix and enhancing resilience.
