EDF and Centrica Discuss 20-Year Extension for Sizewell B Nuclear Plant
FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER
EDF and Centrica are in talks with the UK government to extend the operational life of Sizewell B nuclear power station from 2035 to 2055, requiring a $1.1 billion investment. Sizewell B is the only UK nuclear plant eligible for a significant life extension.
The UK faces a nuclear generation gap as old reactors retire and new plants are delayed. The government aims for 95% of electricity from low-carbon sources by 2030.
