EDF Constructs Anti-Tank Ditches for Baltic Defense Line in Setomaa, Estonia
The Estonian Defense Forces have commenced the construction of anti-tank ditches in Setomaa, covering approximately 20 kilometers. This project is part of the Baltic Defense Line aimed at enhancing national security and fortifying the southeastern border against potential military threats.

Construction of anti-tank ditches in Setomaa, Estonia, is underway, part of a broader Baltic Defense Line initiative by the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF). The project, which began in June 2025, aims to create a defensive structure along the southeastern border, measuring nearly 40 kilometers in total.
Local cooperation is evident, with agreements for land use on private properties. The first bunkers were reported installed by December 17, 2025. The initiative is designed to enhance military response capabilities and fortify Estonia's national security infrastructure, reflecting a regional trend as Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland also strengthen their borders. These developments may influence regional military dynamics, potentially escalating defense expenditures and strategic planning.
