Egger's St. Johann Plant Begins Electricity Generation with New Power Facility
Egger has invested €80 million in a new power plant in St. Johann, Austria, generating electricity for production processes. The facility aims to self-generate 70% of its electricity needs, significantly reducing fossil fuel use and enhancing district heating services.

Egger's new power plant in St. Johann, Austria, marks the initiation of electricity production with a 14.5 MW turbine, expected to generate approximately 100,000 MWh annually. The facility, part of a broader €80 million investment in energy efficiency, is designed to achieve full operational capacity by Q3 2026, gradually enhancing its output starting from May 2024.
The power plant will run independently of natural gas, utilizing biomass and non-recyclable wood waste, which will also bolster district heating services for local communities. This project aligns with Egger's strategy to reduce reliance on volatile energy markets and minimize its carbon footprint.
