Egypt Plans to Increase Oil and Gas Production by Summer 2026 to Ensure Supply
Egypt plans to boost its crude oil and natural gas production to ensure supply by summer 2026, as outlined by Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy. The five-year strategy includes drilling over 100 exploratory wells this year and nearly 500 by 2030, while also enhancing collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity to manage gas consumption. Additionally, Egypt aims to establish itself as a regional gas hub, engaging in the trading of Cypriot gas and focusing on investment attraction through ongoing seismic surveys.

Egypt aims to enhance domestic crude oil and natural gas output to reduce import reliance and secure supply for summer 2026, according to Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy. The initiative includes a five-year strategy extending to 2030, focusing on integrating new wells and increasing production from both existing and newly discovered fields.
The ministry plans to drill over 100 exploratory wells this year, targeting nearly 500 by 2030, alongside ongoing seismic surveys to attract investments. Coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy aims to manage fluctuations in gas consumption for power generation.
The gasification vessel system, established to support the industrial and electricity sectors, will continue to enhance domestic supply. Egypt is also positioning itself as a regional gas hub and is set to engage in trading Cypriot gas. Badawy emphasized the importance of occupational health and safety and urged collaboration among sector leaders to boost production and investment.
