Egypt's Methanol Production Reaches 1.1 Million Tonnes Annually, Boosting Exports
Egypt produces 1.1 million tonnes of methanol annually, fulfilling domestic needs and increasing export volumes. The collaboration between Methanex Corporation and local entities enhances safety standards and supports industrial growth.

Egypt's annual methanol production stands at approximately 1.1 million tonnes, meeting local industrial demand and facilitating exports. Methanex Egypt, operating as a joint venture, remains the sole producer, with significant investments totaling around $1 billion in Damietta.
The company has successfully increased domestic supply from 20,000 tonnes to nearly 200,000 tonnes, contributing to foreign currency inflows through exports exceeding 12 million tonnes since operations began. A new methanol derivatives plant in Suez is set to begin operations soon, supported by a pipeline supplying an additional 58,000 tonnes to the domestic market. Methanex's commitment to safety is evident, having achieved 1.5 million safe working hours in 2025 and launching a professional diploma in process safety management.
