The Ekiti Cargo Airport welcomed its first flight on Saturday, marking a significant step in the state's infrastructural growth. The project, initiated in 2019, aims to enhance transportation of agricultural products and attract investment, with the outgoing Governor Kayode Fayemi emphasizing its potential for socio-economic development.
The Nigerian Air Force flight NAF 930 landed at 10:20 am, attended by key officials including Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika. The construction involved acquiring 4,017 hectares from nine communities, with 669 claimants compensated.
The airport is expected to boost trade and reduce reliance on foreign medical services, as stated by Minister Sirika. The Federal Government plans to establish a cargo facility at the site, further facilitating economic activities.
