El Paso Corp. to Build $1.6 Billion Offshore Gas Pipeline from Nova Scotia to US

El Paso Corp. plans to construct the $1.6 billion Blue Atlantic Transmission System, a 750-mile subsea pipeline from Nova Scotia to the northeastern US. The project aims to transport up to 1 bcfd of gas, responding to increased drilling activity near Sable Island and rising demand for natural gas.
El Paso anticipates filing for permits by the end of 2002, with the pipeline expected to be operational by Q4 2005. The project will also create natural gas access in Nova Scotia's southwestern region.
