Enable Ireland Takes Over Dublin's Textile Bank Operations with New Transparency Measures
Enable Ireland will manage 56 clothing banks in Dublin, ensuring 15% of collected items are sold locally. The contract, effective April 13, aims to improve transparency and accountability in textile waste management.

Effective April 13, Enable Ireland will operate 56 clothing banks in Dublin, mandating that 15% of items be sold in local charity shops. The remaining textiles will be sorted: reusable items will be sold globally, while recyclable materials will be limited to European and UK markets.
Less than 5% of collected clothes will be designated for energy recovery in Northern Ireland. Enable's new contract follows increased demands for transparency in textile waste disposal, highlighting the need for ongoing data on the fate of collected items.
The initiative aims to mitigate issues related to fast fashion and promote a circular economy by ensuring that unreusable items are responsibly processed rather than improperly exported. This shift could influence future environmental policies and practices in textile management.
