ENGIE Advances 900 MW Wind Project in Egypt's Gulf of Suez
ENGIE is leading a 900 MW wind project in Egypt, set to be operational by mid-2028, enhancing the country's renewable energy capacity. This initiative aligns with Egypt's ambition to increase renewables to 42% of its energy mix by 2030.

The 900 MW onshore wind project near Ras Shokeir, led by ENGIE, is set for financial close in early Q3 2026. This project, developed under a 25-year Build-Own-Operate agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, will employ 99% Egyptian nationals and is backed by a consortium including ENGIE, Orascom Construction, and Aeolus.
Operational by mid-2028, it will surpass ENGIE's Assurua Wind Complex as its largest onshore asset. The project is part of Egypt's broader strategy to reach 42% renewables by 2030, with ongoing investments in grid infrastructure supported by a €50 million agreement with KfW Development Bank. ENGIE aims to expand its pipeline in renewables, including wind and solar projects, and is exploring green hydrogen opportunities.
