Eni's Nguya Floating Gas Factory Begins LNG Supply to Europe from Republic of the Congo
Eni's floating gas factory, the Nguya, has started supplying LNG to Europe from the Republic of the Congo. The vessel, larger than the largest US aircraft carrier, processes millions of tonnes of gas annually and cools it to -162°C for transport. Eni aims to leverage floating LNG technology to enhance operational efficiency and security, particularly in regions with challenging onshore developments. The project is part of a broader trend in the industry, where floating LNG is becoming more viable due to reduced costs and logistical advantages.

The Nguya, operated by Eni, has begun LNG supply to Europe from the Republic of the Congo. The floating gas factory processes gas from offshore fields and cools it to -162°C for economical transport to Spain and Italy.
Eni suggests that floating LNG technology offers advantages in terms of speed and security compared to onshore facilities. Costs for floating LNG plants have reportedly decreased by 40% in recent years, with the Nguya's estimated cost below $2.5 billion. The project highlights a shift in the industry, with increased interest in floating LNG amid security concerns and logistical challenges on land.
