Environmental Groups Revive Lawsuit Against Alaska Oil and Gas Leasing Plan
Environmental groups are reviving their lawsuit against the Interior Department's plan to lease nearly all of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain for oil and gas drilling. The Natural Resources Defense Council, Center for Biological Diversity, and Friends of the Earth filed an amended complaint, arguing that the leasing program violates environmental laws. The Interior Department had announced its intention to reinstate the leasing program in October.

Environmental groups are resuming a legal challenge against the Interior Department's plan to drill for oil and gas in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge coastal plain. In October, the Interior Department announced plans to reinstate a leasing program to open nearly all of the 1.56-million-acre area for drilling. The Natural Resources Defense Council, Center for Biological Diversity, and Friends of the Earth filed an amended complaint in a federal court in Alaska, claiming the plan violates environmental laws.
