The EPA has allocated €6.5 million to 24 research projects in Ireland focused on climate change and environmental issues. The University of Galway received eight awards, the most of any institution. Projects include a peatland restoration study, methane source investigations, and flood probability research, with co-funding from Met Éireann and the Office of Public Works.

The funding will support 148 research staff across 10 educational institutions and involve 34 collaborating organizations across three countries. The EPA aims to address emerging research needs and knowledge gaps for policy development, with a 2026 research call expected later this year.
