Epson Receives WIPO Prize for Innovative Inkjet Printhead Technology
Epson's compact piezoelectric inkjet printhead structure has won the WIPO Prize at the 2026 National Commendation for Invention. This recognition underscores Epson's commitment to advancing inkjet technology and its application across various industries.

Seiko Epson Corporation has been awarded the WIPO Prize for its innovative piezoelectric inkjet printhead structure (Japanese patent No. 5958568) during the 2026 National Commendation for Invention. This marks Epson's first WIPO Prize and fifth recognition at this event since 2019, coinciding with a recent focus on miniaturization and cost-effectiveness in inkjet print technology.
The new printhead design optimizes actuator composition, allowing for increased displacement of the piezoelectric element while minimizing the number of constituent layers. As a result, the compact structure overcomes limitations of traditional designs, enabling broader applications, including in semiconductor manufacturing. Epson aims to further enhance its inkjet technologies for sustainable industrial development.
