Samsung Electronics Invests $4.08 Billion in Vietnam Semiconductor Plant
Samsung Electronics plans to invest $4.08 billion in a new semiconductor backend process plant in Vietnam, with 1,612 units of Korean equipment being installed. This significant investment aligns with the company's strategy to enhance its semiconductor production capabilities in Southeast Asia.

Samsung Electronics is committing $4.08 billion to a semiconductor backend process facility in Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam. This investment includes 1,612 units of new equipment from South Korea, with a breakdown of financing: $100 million from Samsung's own capital, $1.41 billion from affiliates, and $2.57 billion from future reinvestment.
Notably, the equipment includes 712 memory burn-in test chambers and various other testing and packaging devices. The project is expected to weigh around 2,000 tons. While discussions have occurred regarding relocating existing backend facilities from South Korea, all new equipment confirmed in the permit is specified as '100% new products,' indicating a strong commitment to establishing operations in Vietnam. This move may influence the regional semiconductor supply chain and bolster local manufacturing capabilities.
