Equinor Abandons Shore Electrification for Wisting Oilfield Project
Equinor has ceased plans to electrify the Wisting oilfield from shore, opting for a gas turbine solution instead. The decision comes due to high costs and technical challenges associated with the original electrification plan.

Norway's Equinor has decided against electrifying the Wisting oilfield from shore, citing high costs and technical complexity. The oilfield, located on the Norwegian continental shelf, holds nearly 500 million barrels of oil equivalent.
A final investment decision is anticipated by late 2027, and if approved, Wisting could produce for approximately 30 years. The development will utilize a Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, with plans for carbon capture and storage (CCS) to mitigate CO2 emissions. Project partners include Aker BP, Petoro, and INPEX Idemitsu.
