Equity-Sharing Model Proposed for Energy Projects in Sarawak
Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon advocates for an equity-sharing model in energy initiatives in Sarawak, emphasizing genuine community participation. This approach aims to ensure long-term benefits for local residents and enhance their involvement in energy developments, including cascading dams and floating solar projects.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon proposed an equity-sharing model to enhance community participation in energy projects in Sarawak. He emphasized that local communities should hold equity stakes in developments, supported by government financing structures.
This model, inspired by Canadian practices involving indigenous communities, could provide sustainable benefits compared to short-term corporate social responsibility initiatives. Ugon advocated for its application across new projects, such as floating solar and cascade dams, aligning with Sarawak's energy hub ambitions. Additionally, Sarawak is advancing its waste-to-energy initiatives, including a new gas-to-energy cogeneration prototype at the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park, which currently generates five kilowatts from landfill methane.
