Erdoğan Claims Victory in Aleppo Against YPG, Sees Integration Opportunity for SDF
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a significant victory for the Syrian army in Aleppo against the YPG. He emphasized the importance of the 'terror-free Türkiye' initiative, which began in 2024 for disarming the PKK.
Erdoğan indicated that recent clashes with the SDF created a 'historic opportunity' for the latter's integration into the Syrian national army. Following the Syrian government's capture of neighborhoods in Aleppo, residents began returning on January 12.
The integration aims to preserve unity among Turks, Kurds, and Arabs, while Erdoğan criticized the SDF's demands. The committee overseeing this integration has held 20 meetings and is expected to release its final report this month, despite the İYİ Party's boycott. Erdoğan affirmed that the clearing of SDF from Aleppo is crucial for lasting peace in Syria.
