Essar to Deploy 10,000 LNG and Electric Trucks in India for Clean Freight Operations
Essar plans to deploy 10,000 LNG and electric trucks across India over three years, supported by 100 alternative fuel and charging hubs. This initiative aims to reduce one million tonnes of carbon emissions and decarbonise India's freight value chain. The project involves vehicle manufacturing by Blue Energy Motors, fleet management by GreenLine Mobility, and infrastructure development by Ultra Gas & Energy. Essar's dual-fuel strategy includes LNG trucks for long-haul and electric trucks for short-haul operations.

Essar will deploy 10,000 LNG and electric trucks in India within three years, establishing a network of 100 alternative fuel and charging hubs to reduce carbon emissions by one million tonnes. The initiative integrates vehicle manufacturing by Blue Energy Motors, fleet management by GreenLine Mobility, and infrastructure by Ultra Gas & Energy (UGEL).
LNG trucks will be used for long-haul routes, capable of traveling up to 1,200 km per tank, while electric trucks will utilize fast-charging and battery-swapping under a Battery-as-a-Service model. Essar operates India's largest LNG trucking fleet, with over 800 trucks covering 70 million kilometers and reducing nearly 19,756 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. UGEL's infrastructure includes six operational refuelling hubs, with plans for expansion across multiple states supported by a ₹900-crore investment.
