ESWET Advocates for Enhanced Role of Waste-to-Energy in Europe’s Industrial Strategy
ESWET calls for stronger integration of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) technology into Europe's industrial strategy, emphasizing its role in decarbonization and energy security. WtE plants provide reliable renewable energy and lower reliance on imported natural gas, which is crucial amid high gas prices.
The organization advocates for WtE manufacturers to be included in industrial acceleration areas and for WtE facilities to be acknowledged as strategic infrastructure. ESWET supports the recognition of biomass and waste as sustainable carbon sources in the IAA and highlights the need for a framework that encourages the use of waste-derived biogenic carbon dioxide in the chemical industry. The contribution of WtE to secondary raw materials must be reflected in low-carbon requirements and public procurement incentives.
