Ethiopian Army Reports Surrender of Over 200 Fighters in Western Oromia
The Ethiopian Army reported that over 200 armed fighters surrendered in the Western Oromia region following negotiations with local officials. This surrender comes amid ongoing clashes between government forces and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), which has been active in the area since splitting from the Oromo Liberation Front after a 2018 peace agreement. Despite these developments, violence continues, and independent verification remains challenging due to access restrictions.

More than 200 armed fighters surrendered to Ethiopian government forces in the Western Oromia region, according to the military. The fighters had been operating in the East Wollega Zone and laid down their arms following negotiations with local administrators and security officials.
This development follows sustained security operations and dialogue efforts. Western Oromia has experienced ongoing clashes between government forces and the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), which split from the Oromo Liberation Front after a 2018 peace agreement.
The OLA claims that the marginalization of the Oromo people is the cause of their armed struggle. While authorities have previously announced surrenders, violence persists in the region, and independent verification of these events is hindered by access restrictions and communication shutdowns.
