EU Announces €90 Billion Loan to Support Ukraine's Military and Economy Amid Ongoing Conflict
The European Union has announced a €90 billion ($105 billion) loan program for Ukraine, primarily aimed at military support and economic recovery over the years 2026 and 2027. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that €60 billion ($70 billion) is allocated for military needs, while €30 billion ($35 billion) will assist Ukraine's budget.
Ukraine is expected to need up to €137 billion ($160 billion) in total during this period. The loan repayment will only be required once Russia ends its war and pays reparations. The EU aims to start disbursing funds by April, contingent on approval from member states and the European Parliament.
Additionally, von der Leyen emphasized that Ukraine must implement democratic reforms and combat corruption to secure these loans. The announcement comes as Ukraine faces a financial crisis and requires urgent support to sustain its defense against ongoing Russian aggression.
