EU Commissioner Kubilius Warns of No Peace in Russia-Ukraine War, Calls for Increased Defense Support
EU Commissioner Andrius Kubilius stated there is no peace in sight in Russia's war against Ukraine, urging the EU to enhance its military capabilities. He emphasized the risk of Russian aggression towards EU nations and highlighted the need for increased support for Ukraine, noting that a Russian victory would be costly for Europe. Kubilius advocated for integrating Ukraine's defense capabilities into the EU's defense industry and proposed the establishment of a European Defense Union as a step towards Ukraine's EU membership.

EU Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius warned that there is no prospect for peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, urging the EU to bolster its military capabilities. He highlighted the possibility of direct Russian aggression against EU member states and noted that Russia's military spending is significantly higher than that of the EU.
Kubilius pointed out shortages in missile defense systems and reiterated calls for a 400% increase in Europe’s air defense capabilities. He emphasized Ukraine’s critical role in European security and stated that investment in defense is essential, as failure to do so would be more costly. He proposed integrating Ukraine’s defense industry into Europe’s and suggested establishing a European Defense Union to advance Ukraine towards EU membership.
