EU Imports 100% of LNG Shipments from Russia's Yamal Despite 2027 Ban
In February, the EU imported 1.54 million tons of LNG from Russia's Yamal facility, marking 100% of shipments. This is the first time since April 2018 that all Yamal shipments were directed to European ports. The import ban on Russian gas is set for 2027, with existing contracts under transitional provisions. Notably, 76.1% of Yamal's LNG exports in 2025 went to the EU, generating about €7.2 billion in revenue for Russia. French, Belgian, and Spanish ports received the majority of shipments in February.

In January, EU buyers represented 93% of Yamal's production. By 2025, 76.1% of Yamal's exports were directed to the EU, yielding approximately €7.2 billion for Russia. The EU import ban, effective March 2026, compels companies to reassess long-term contracts. Sefe, a German importer, noted a case of force majeure regarding its contract with Yamal, which expires in 2040.
