EU Invests US$ 116.7 Million in Kenya's Digital Infrastructure
The EU has pledged €102 million (~US$ 116.7 million) to enhance digital infrastructure in Kenya, focusing on subsea cable and AI initiatives. This investment aims to transform connectivity and support economic growth in the region.

The European Union has committed €102 million (approximately US$ 116.7 million) for digital transformation projects in Kenya. Key components of this investment include €37 million (US$ 42.3 million) for the extension of the Blue-Raman subsea cable system and €10 million (US$ 11.4 million) for a Digital Transformation Centre aimed at promoting AI and digital trade.
Additionally, the EU will contribute €15 million (US$ 17.1 million) to expand Kenya's national fiber-optic network. Seven operational subsea cables currently exist in Kenya, with two more expected by 2027.
The data center market in Kenya is projected to grow to US$ 805 million by 2031, necessitating improved connectivity. This collaboration signals a strategic move to bolster economic prospects and technological advancements in Kenya.
