Europe Prepares Gas Reserves for Winter 2026 Amidst Market Shifts
Germany's gas storage is crucial for EU energy balance, with current levels at 36%. In contrast, Poland reports over 62% capacity, highlighting regional disparities in readiness ahead of winter 2026.

As of mid-June, European gas storage levels are above 44%, with Poland at over 62% and Germany at only 36%. The capacity of German storage facilities exceeds 250 TWh, compared to Poland's nearly 40 TWh.
The ongoing Middle Eastern conflict has disrupted LNG supplies, notably from Qatar, which has ceased shipments citing force majeure. This disruption has raised global gas prices, especially as Asian markets seek alternative sources.
Germany is negotiating a gas import agreement with Canada, potentially supplying 1/8 of its LNG needs. In 2026, the U.S. is projected to increase its share of European LNG imports to nearly two-thirds, strengthening its market position.
