European Photonic Chip Pilot Facility Launched in Eindhoven, Netherlands
A pilot production facility for photonic chips has been launched in Eindhoven, Netherlands, with 86 million euros from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and 66 million euros from the EU's Chips Joint Undertaking. The initiative involves TNO, Eindhoven University of Technology, and other partners. The facility will focus on advanced indium phosphide photonic chips and aims to enhance data transmission using light technology.

A European pilot production facility for photonic chips was launched in Eindhoven, Netherlands, with funding of 86 million euros from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and 66 million euros from the European semiconductor innovation program Chips Joint Undertaking. An additional 20 million euros is provided by the Dutch Defense Ministry.
The initiative involves collaboration among TNO, Eindhoven University of Technology, and other entities. The facility will be located at High Tech Campus Eindhoven and will focus on testing and fabricating advanced indium phosphide photonic chips on 6-inch wafers. Photonic technology aims to improve data transmission, offering higher performance and energy efficiency.
