EVN Macedonia Launches First New Substation in Skopje in 40 Years
The commissioning of the Centralna substation marks a significant advancement in North Macedonia's energy infrastructure. This project enhances grid stability and capacity, supporting future investments and urban development in Skopje.

EVN Macedonia has commissioned the Centralna substation, the first of its kind in Skopje in four decades, utilizing a compact design and advanced technology on a site ten times smaller than typical 120 MW facilities. The substation features a 110 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) installation, remote control systems, and advanced fire protection, marking the first use of 110 kV cables in the country.
This investment is crucial for modernizing the electricity grid, as existing substations are outdated and have surpassed their capacity. Over 30 companies, including GE and Siemens, contributed to this EUR 800 million project, which represents a pivotal development for urban energy needs in Skopje.
