The MQ-20 Avenger drone, developed by General Atomics, recently conducted a live engagement with a U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor over Edwards Air Force Base, California. This mission tested the integration of government reference autonomy software and the Autonodyne Bashi Pilot Vehicle Interface, enabling communication and coordination between the two aircraft.
The engagement included tactical maneuvers and combat air patrols. The Avenger, which first flew in 2009, serves as a testbed for technology and can carry 3,500 pounds of weapons at a speed of 460 mph.
Future developments in its role as a Collaborative Combat Aircraft are anticipated as the USAF and U.S. Navy push for uncrewed wingmen.
