Fairmont Town Manager Jerome Chestnut, in office since August 8, 2022, has secured over $5 million in grants by the end of 2023, averaging $334,000 per month. In 2024, he generated approximately $1 million in grants, including $297,000 from the Department of Justice for community cameras and police salaries, $240,000 from the Army Corps of Engineers for canal surveying, and $150,000 for sediment removal.
In 2025, grants will focus on upgrading the town's sewer system and repairing the wastewater treatment plant, alongside $20 million in pending applications for water improvements and housing reconstruction. For 2026, Chestnut plans over $10 million in sewer rehabilitation, a $3 million town hall project, and funding for a youth center and sidewalk projects.
