Farmers Displaced in Benue State as Armed Herdsmen Destroy Crops

DEFENSE

Suspected armed herdsmen attacked farmers in Adogo, Ugbaam Council Ward of Ukum Local Government Area, Benue State, destroying crops worth millions of Naira. The attacks have caused fear among residents, prompting many to flee their homes.

Community leader Chief Aule Gba confirmed the incidents, stating the assaults have severely disrupted farming activities. He highlighted the lack of effective government and security responses, exposing the community to ongoing risks.

Gba called for reassessment of security strategies, including collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Defense to enhance security measures. He warned that failure to act could lead to more attacks, as limited security patrols have emboldened the herdsmen. The situation raises concerns about potential food security challenges in the region.
