Faults Identified in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 During Testing
Faults were detected in Unit-1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) during fuel loading tests, possibly delaying commissioning. Despite minor issues, the plant aims to begin electricity generation by December 2026, with significant government investments in safety systems.

During a recent testing of Unit-1 at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, three faults were identified, prompting authorities to suspend further tests. The plant, which entered its operational phase with fuel loading commencing on April 28, aims to start generating electricity by December 2026, targeting 1,150 MW from the first unit.
The government has invested approximately $1 billion in safety infrastructures to withstand natural disasters. Historical data suggests that such technical faults are common during commissioning phases.
Plans for two additional units depend on the successful commissioning of the first two. Authorities remain focused on resolving the current issues swiftly to maintain the timeline.
