Federal Officials Cancel Emergency Dredging at Oceanside Harbor, Maintenance Scheduled for Early 2026
Federal officials have canceled emergency dredging at Oceanside Harbor after a December 2025 survey confirmed that the channel remains navigable, with depths of 8 feet in the southern half and 13 feet in the northern half. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to conduct its annual spring dredging to deepen the channel to over 25 feet before Memorial Day and will accelerate maintenance dredging contracts, with advertising set for late January and awards in early March 2026. Boaters are advised to avoid the harbor entrance during low tides or large swells due to hazardous shoaling conditions.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has determined that emergency dredging is unnecessary at Oceanside Harbor due to a hydrographic survey conducted in December 2025, which confirmed the channel remains navigable.
The survey indicated the southern half of the harbor's main channel is about 8 feet deep at its lowest, while the northern half is 13 feet deep. The Corps plans to conduct its annual spring dredging, typically deepening the channel to over 25 feet before Memorial Day, and is accelerating the maintenance dredging contract schedule to address harbor needs sooner than usual, with advertising planned by the end of January and awarding in early March 2026.
City officials will meet with the Corps in mid-January to discuss sediment removal. Meanwhile, boaters are advised to avoid the harbor entrance during low tides or large swells due to hazardous shoaling conditions.
