Federal Polytechnics at Risk of Zero Budget Allocation for 2026 Due to Non-Attendance at Defense
Federal polytechnics face potential zero allocations in the 2026 budget after only four rectors attended the defense session before the House of Representatives. The House Committee on Polytechnics had scheduled the defense for 14 institutions, but several rectors did not appear, citing various reasons. The committee has set a new date for rescheduled defenses, but failure to attend could result in no budget allocation. The House of Representatives holds the authority to withhold funding based on compliance with budgetary processes.

Federal polytechnics may receive zero allocations in the 2026 budget after only four rectors attended the defense session set by the House Committee on Polytechnics. Rectors from Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi; Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny; Federal Polytechnic, Yaba; Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro; and others did not appear.
Some institutions claimed they were unaware of the invitation, while others cited conflicting engagements. A new date for budget defense has been established. If rectors do not participate, they risk losing budget allocations. The House of Representatives has the constitutional authority to deny funding based on attendance and compliance with budgetary requirements.
