FERC Approves Golden Triangle's Spindletop Expansion in Texas
On March 19, 2026, FERC authorized Golden Triangle Storage's Spindletop Expansion Project, enhancing natural gas storage capacity in Texas. The project aims to meet increasing demand in the Gulf Coast region and includes new storage caverns and compression facilities.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approved the Spindletop Expansion Project by Golden Triangle Storage, LLC on March 19, 2026, under the Natural Gas Act. The project will add four new storage caverns and 55,000 horsepower of compression to the existing facility in Jefferson County, Texas.
FERC reaffirmed Golden Triangle's market-based rate authority and granted related waivers for cost-based accounting. The expansion responds to growing demand for natural gas storage and aims to support high flow rates and peak demand responses. Despite some environmental concerns from local entities, FERC concluded that the project would not adversely impact customers or the environment if proper measures are followed.
