FERC Reviews Environmental Impact of Kinder Morgan's Pipeline Projects in Georgia and Surrounding States
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is reviewing two pipeline projects by Kinder Morgan, expected to impact over 2,000 water bodies in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. The South System Expansion 4 (SSE4) and Mississippi Crossing projects will add 500 miles of pipeline and increase gas capacity by 1.4 billion cubic feet per day. Environmental groups express concerns about the cumulative impacts on waterways, particularly the Ogeechee River, due to the construction methods and potential damage to wetlands and fish habitats.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is evaluating two Kinder Morgan pipeline projects that will affect over 2,000 waterways in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, with construction starting next year. The combined South System Expansion 4 (SSE4) and Mississippi Crossing will add 500 miles of pipeline and increase natural gas capacity by 1.4 billion cubic feet per day.
Environmental groups are concerned about the impact on the Ogeechee River and its tributaries due to the construction methods planned, including pneumatic hammering instead of horizontal directional drilling. The projects are expected to affect wetlands and fish habitats critically, raising concerns about sedimentation and water quality.
