FERC Schedules Scoping Sessions for Proposed Expansion of Rio Grande LNG Terminal in Port Isabel
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has scheduled two scoping sessions on March 24-25 in Port Isabel to gather public input on a proposed sixth train expansion at the Rio Grande LNG terminal. Currently under construction, trains 1-3 are expected to produce 18 million metric tons per year (MTPA) by next year. Approval has been granted for trains 4-5, which will add an additional 12 million MTPA. The proposed sixth train could increase capacity to 48 million MTPA. Public comments will inform environmental assessments.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold scoping sessions on March 24-25 in Port Isabel to gather input on a proposed sixth train for the Rio Grande LNG terminal. Phase one, including trains 1-3, is expected to start operations in 2024 with a capacity of 18 million metric tons per year (MTPA).
Approval for trains 4-5 will add 12 million MTPA. The proposed sixth train, currently in the pre-filing process, could increase total capacity to 48 million MTPA. Gas will be supplied from the Permian Basin via the Rio Bravo Pipeline. Public feedback will contribute to the environmental document assessing the expansion's impacts.
