FERC Seeks Public Input on Bakken East Pipeline Route in Stutsman County
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) held a public scoping meeting to gather comments on the Bakken East Pipeline project. The pipeline aims to transport natural gas from North Dakota's western region to the east, with construction and operation by WBI Energy.

FERC is currently collecting public comments regarding the Bakken East Pipeline, which will transport natural gas from Watford City to Mapleton, North Dakota. The proposed pipeline route may cross Stutsman County, approximately 10 miles north of Interstate 94.
Concerns raised include the restoration of agricultural land post-construction, the impact on wildlife, and the management of wooded areas. FERC regulations mandate trenchless construction under sensitive areas, and the agency will oversee inspections throughout the project.
The permitting process could take about one year once WBI submits an application. This project aligns with North Dakota's energy resource distribution, as noted by local Senator Cole Conley, supporting increased utilization of natural gas.
