Fervo Energy, PNNL, and NVIDIA Collaborate on AI-Driven Geothermal Digital Twin Platform
Fervo Energy, NVIDIA, and PNNL are developing EGS-Twin, a digital twin platform for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), integrating real-time field data, physics-based modeling, and AI. This collaboration could significantly enhance geothermal energy efficiency and scalability, addressing subsurface uncertainties that hinder project financing.

Fervo Energy, NVIDIA, and PNNL are set to create EGS-Twin, a digital twin platform designed to optimize Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS). The platform will utilize proprietary field data from Fervo's operations in Nevada and Utah, leveraging AI to forecast subsurface behavior and performance, with implementation targeted for 2029.
PNNL will develop workflows and data pipelines using high-performance computing resources, including those from the U.S. Department of Energy. This initiative aims to reduce the risks associated with geothermal drilling, potentially accelerating project financing and deployment. If successful, EGS-Twin may position geothermal energy competitively against solar and wind power based on levelized cost.
