FFPS Condemns AFP Bombings in Mindoro, Calls for Release of Chantal Anicoche
Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) condemns the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for bombings in Mindoro on January 1, which involved 4 attack helicopters and at least 12 aerial bombs targeting peasant and indigenous Mangyan communities in Abra de Ilog. The AFP claims the operation was against the New People's Army (NPA), despite the NPA observing a holiday ceasefire.
The bombings resulted in civilian casualties, including the deaths of student researcher Jerlyn Rose Doydora and three local children, with their mother injured. FFPS criticizes the US-Marcos regime for its aggressive military policies and calls for the immediate release of Chantal Anicoche, emphasizing the need for respect of her rights and protection from torture. The AFP is currently obstructing human rights organizations from investigating the attack, raising concerns about the safety of those in the affected communities.
