Finland to Acquire 112 Additional K9 Self-Propelled Howitzers from South Korea
Finland's Defense Ministry has signed a deal with South Korea for 112 K9 howitzers, increasing its artillery capacity significantly. This acquisition, totaling approximately €546.8 million, is part of Finland's effort to modernize its military capabilities in response to regional security concerns.

Finland will enhance its artillery with 112 additional K9 self-propelled howitzers, bringing its total to 208 units by 2031. The agreement, valued at around €546.8 million, was executed through a Government-to-Government arrangement with the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
Finland initially acquired 48 K9 units in 2017 and began training with the system in 2019. The country aims to replace aging towed artillery systems and address modernization needs highlighted by the Ukraine conflict.
K9 has proven effective in harsh Nordic conditions, influencing Spain's similar procurement decision. Before deployment, the new howitzers will undergo modifications to meet Finnish Army and NATO standards.
