FitzWalter Capital Acquires UK Altnet G.network Amid Funding Challenges

DEFENSE

FitzWalter Capital has acquired UK alternative network provider G.network, which has been struggling with debt. This acquisition highlights the difficulties faced by indebted altnets as they contend with rising interest rates and cautious lenders.

A recent Neos Networks survey revealed that nearly half of altnets have found it challenging to secure funding, while 55% reported that their target customers are bound by contracts with legacy providers. In a separate development, Deutsche Telekom, via its T.Capital Tech Fund, has invested in Quantum Systems, a leading provider of autonomous surveillance drones, as part of its broader interest in defense technology.

The UK government announced an action plan aimed at enhancing confidence in online public services, potentially unlocking £45 billion in productivity savings. Additionally, Broadband Genie reported significant disparities in broadband speeds across the UK, with Heol-Y-Fedw in Wales averaging 0.81 Mbit/s, while Inglewood Avenue in Derby boasts speeds of 1.21 Gbit/s. Sky Mobile plans to raise prices by £1.50 per month starting February 14 due to increased wholesale network costs.
