Flender Hosts NRW State Secretary to Discuss Defense Manufacturing Support and EU Spending Growth
Flender hosted Paul Höller, the State Secretary for Economic Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia, to explore support for local mechanical and plant engineering firms in the expanding defense sector. With EU defense spending expected to rise significantly by 2025, Flender aims to enhance its offerings in marine propulsion systems and military vehicle gearboxes. Höller emphasized the need for collaboration between the state and industry to bolster the region's defense capabilities.

Flender welcomed Paul Höller, State Secretary for Economic Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia, at its Bocholt headquarters to discuss how local mechanical and plant engineering companies can benefit from the growing defense sector and state support. The European Defence Agency reports EU defense spending is projected to rise from €251 billion in 2021 to €381 billion by 2025, with Germany's Bundeswehr budget set at approximately €86.4 billion for 2025.
Andreas Evertz, CEO of Flender and newly elected chairman of the VDMA Forum Security & Defence Industry, emphasized the industry's role in enhancing defense capabilities. Flender is focusing on security industry solutions, aiming to expand its presence in areas such as marine propulsion systems, military vehicle gearboxes, and safety-related couplings. Höller highlighted the importance of collaboration between the state and industry to strengthen North Rhine-Westphalia's position in the defense sector.
