FOCOL Expands LNG Operations in The Bahamas with Turner Industries Partnership
FOCOL Holdings Limited is advancing its liquefied natural gas (LNG) operations across The Bahamas, including a new facility at Clifton Pier. This move aims to transition the country's energy supply from diesel to cleaner, cost-effective natural gas, potentially lowering electricity costs for consumers.
FOCOL Holdings Limited has signed a deal with Turner Industries for the construction of an LNG terminal and regasification facility at Clifton Pier, with an investment of approximately $120-$130 million. The project aims to diversify energy sources in New Providence, moving away from heavy fuel oil and diesel.
The facility will incorporate both offshore and onshore infrastructure, including marine transfer systems for LNG shipments. Shell is designated as the supplier of LNG, although no public statements have been made regarding the agreement.
The transition to LNG is expected to significantly impact energy costs in The Bahamas, as high electricity prices have been linked to reliance on imported petroleum products. Training for local personnel will also be part of the initiative, aiming to foster local expertise in LNG operations.
