Former Consultants Draft KSM Mine Permit in B.C. Government Role
Former consultants for Seabridge Gold Inc. are now involved in drafting permits for the KSM mine project, raising conflict of interest concerns. The changes include significant reductions in the required security deposit and adjustments to wastewater treatment regulations.

Two former consultants from Environmental Resources Management (ERM) are now drafting permits for the KSM mine project within B.C.'s Ministry of Mining and Critical Minerals. These changes, documented in permits from February and March 2026, include reducing the security deposit from $79 million to $46.7 million and altering wastewater treatment requirements.
The KSM mine, a $7.9 billion investment, is poised for early construction amid government efforts to enhance domestic mineral supply. Critics highlight potential conflicts of interest due to the consultants' previous roles, while government officials assert adherence to ethical guidelines. The overlapping roles may undermine public trust in regulatory processes.
